Stacking is a preferred American way to present a finished wedding cake. The tiers, which are stacked either centrally over each other or offset, are supported with hidden boards and dowels. The overall height of a stacked cake is less than other tiered cakes. For a grander effect, you can increase the number of tiers, including some false upper tiers if necessary.
